Beloved of Christ Jesus, the word of God in Matthew 5:13 says, “You are the salt of the earth.” What do you know about salt? Salt is one of the main necessities in any home. Salt makes dishes taste delicious. When a mother cooks a dish without using salt she would be criticized by her husband because the dish is tasteless. Salt has its value when it still has its saltiness. “Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? Flavorless salt is good neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown away.” (Luke 14:34-35a). Apart from giving taste to a tasteless dish salt is also beneficial as food preservatives, to kill germs, and prevent decay.
Some foods that are preserve with salt are eggs, fish, meat, canned food, and others. Preserved fish or meat can last for months. The phrase ‘You are the salt of the earth’ is a clear statement which indicates that the existence of believers in this world is actually to be the salt to the world. Hence, we must be able to give a good taste to this tasteless world and to be enjoyed and useful to all. Salt that has lost its saltiness or has become tasteless is a picture of the life of Christian that is not a blessing to those around them. Beloved of Christ Jesus, God wants you to be the salt to those around you no matter where He placed in the world. Be thankful to Him because He is willing to use us to be a channel of blessing for the glory of His name. Amen!
