Beloved of Christ Jesus, today is a very special day for us as a big family of BEM Olive Garden because we are celebrating “MOTHER’S DAY” at our church. The Word of God says in Rom. 16:13: “Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me, too.” The presence of a father is important, but there will a time where a mother’s touch for a small child is like nothing else in the world. And, not only small children but even adults need it. When Apostle Paul was about ffty years old, he sent a special greeting to his friend in Rome named Rufus. What interesting here is that he also conveyed greeting to Rufus’ mother, whom he regarded as his own mother (Rom. 16:13). Why did Paul think so? For many years Paul had faced many challenges in his ministry (2 Cor. 6:4-10). Possibly Rufus brought Paul who was worn- out and tired into his home where he was given not only food and clean clothes but also received some comforting words from Rufus’ mother. Perhaps he acknowledged that such care and tenderness that he received could only be given by a mother – Rufus’ mother. I believe God has given women a unique ability to show gentleness and compassion, and also to direct the spirituality of children. Let us give thanks to God and express our appreciation to all mothers and those we regard as mother in conjunction with the Mother’s Day today. May the grace of God be with us all. Amen!
