Beloved of Christ Jesus, today is a very special day for us as a big family of BEM Olive Garden because we are celebrating “MOTHER’S DAY” at our church. The Word of God says in Romans 16:13; “Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me, too.” The presence of a father is important, but there is a time a child does not need anything else but a mother’s touch. Even adults need it. When Apostle Paul was about fifty years old, he sent a special greeting to his friend in Rome named Rufus. What interesting here is that he also conveyed greeting to Rufus’ mother, whom he regarded as his own mother (Romans 16:13).
Why did Paul think so? Because for many years in ministry, Paul had faced many challenges (2 Corinthians 6:4-10). Possibly Rufus had brought Paul who was exhausted to his home where
he received words of comfort, clean clothes, and food from Rufus’ mother. Perhaps he had received the care and tenderness that can only be given by a mother from Rufus’ mother. I believe God has given women a unique ability to show gentleness and compassion in directing children’s spirituality. Let us give thanks to God and express our appreciation to mothers and those we regard as mother in conjunction with Mother’s Day today. May the grace of God be with us all, Amen!
