What I wish for us to see is what truly biblical faith is. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) The phrase “of things hoped for” is one Greek verb “elpizo” and simply means “trust.” It is translated numerous time as “trust.” “Substance” is the word “hupostasis” and means to “set under” referring to the foundation. Therefore biblical faith is trusting in the sure foundation of God’s promises to those who will believe.
We mark time into seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. We are at the beginning of a new year and this is a time when most reflect on the past and look towards the future. May I give each of you some good news that we who have believed and by faith accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour have the most wonderful future ahead of us. Our future is secured in the Person of our Saviour and God — Jesus Christ. We have nothing to fear or to be anxious about. Even in times when things get tough, we are by faith to expectantly wait for our Saviour.
We can rest in the comfort of knowing the end. If we trust the Lord, and are obedient to Him, allow Him to direct our lives whatever comes through the Lord we will overcome. The victory in our lives has been won…and not by us, but by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. “Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” (1 Thessalonians 5:10-11)
